Serving God and being served by God in covenant renewal

On Sundays at 9:30 AM, we assemble for what we call "covenant renewal worship." Our service, which features lots of rich hymns and psalms and readings from Scripture, is organized around five Cs:

  • Call: God calls us to praise him, and we respond with prayer and praise
  • Cleansing: God cleanses us from our sins as we confess them to him
  • Consecration: God consecrates us to himself by the ministry of the Word (read and preached) and prayer (1 Tim. 4:5)
  • Communion: God communes with us, and we with one another, as we feast together at the Lord's Table
  • Commission: God, having blessed us and renewed his covenant with us, commissions us to go forth and serve him our daily callings and to make disciples of the nations
  • We love this model of worship, because it enacts on a weekly basis the gospel of Jesus Christ: that gospel forgives our sin (justification), frees us from our sin (sanctification), and gives us fellowship with the living, truine God (communion).
